How We Help

How We Help

We offer a variety of events and services throughout the year to help you get and stay on track in your career development. When you’re ready, come talk to us or take advantage of the following opportunities:

Create a career profile
Not sure where to start? We’re here to help. One of the first steps in working with the Professional Edge center is creating a personal profile in Handshake (link), our job portal for students and employers to connect. Not only will you start developing a relationship with our office, you’ll also have access to the jobs that are posted regularly by our employer partners.

Career planning appointments
If you’re not sure what you want to pursue, we can help you figure out how to take your interests and combine them with your strengths to develop a career path that suits you. Contact us to schedule and appointment and start the conversation or visit our job portal where students and employers connect.

Drop-in assistance
Need a quick glance over your resume or cover letter? Have a question about how to perfect your thank you note? Stop by the Stierwalt Alumni House between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. One of our staff members will be happy to help you. For a longer conversation, email to schedule an appointment.

Document preparation
Whether you need to craft your first resume and cover letter, develop a personal statement for graduate school, or create a reference list for a job application, we can help you edit and refine your documents.

Contact us or stop by for a brief meeting to review your documents. We recommend that you have an electronic version of your documents handy so we can make updates on the spot.

We host events throughout the year to help you refine your professional skills, learn more about various career fields, and connect with potential employers. Some of our regular events include job & internship fairs, career information sessions with local professionals, business etiquette dinners, and leadership seminars. See upcoming events.

Job-shadowing & externships
One of the best ways to discover if a career is right for you is to give it a test drive. The Professional Edge Center can help you set up a job-shadow experience or externship (a short, experiential learning opportunity similar to an internship) so you can get a better sense of a profession.

Internship & job search
Searching for that first internship or job can be a daunting experience. That’s why we’re here to help. Having a plan makes everything easier, so talk with a Professional Edge Center team member or attend a workshop to help you map out your efforts.
