The Engineering Dual Degree Program (EDDP) is a cooperative partnership between the University of Indianapolis and the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at Indianapolis (IUPUI) that allows you to complete the requirements for two distinct undergraduate degrees in five years – a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, computer science, math or physics from UIndy, and a complementary bachelor’s degree in engineering from Purdue at IUPUI. With an engineering degree, the career opportunities are vast. From high performance engine design to developing super-computers to automate research, engineering gives you the technical and scientific problem-solving skills needed in the most cutting-edge fields.

This program allows you to enjoy the benefits of small, specialized math and science classes and personalized attention at UIndy with a top-ranked engineering school. All engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET).

Dual enrollment

If you are accepted into the EDDP, you will be dual-enrolled at both institutions starting your freshman year, unlike traditional 3–2 programs in which students are enrolled at one university full time for three years and subsequently transfer to the other. While you will take courses at UIndy during your feshman year, you may enroll in courses at both institutions during your second through fifth years of study. Students commonly take courses at both institutions during a single semester due to course availability; however, you are not required to do so.

Engineering programs

  • Electrical engineering: Focuses on the uses of electricity, along with the equipment used for power generation and distribution.
  • Mechanical engineering: Focuses on the design, construction and use of machines.
  • Computer engineering: Combines methodology in electrical engineering and computer science for the development of computer hardware and software.
  • Bio-medical engineering:Combines engineering principles with the medical sciences to improve health care systems.

Financial aid

UIndy acts as students’ home institution all five years; therefore, students pay UIndy tuition and receive their financial aid packages from UIndy.

Admission requirements

For consideration into the Engineering Dual Degree Program, interested students must complete the University of Indianapolis undergraduate application and do not need to apply to IUPUI. All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 3.0 high school GPA
  • SAT scores of 550 on the math section and 480 on the critical reading section (or equivalent ACT scores)
  • Completion of a college preparatory curriculum (Core 40) including chemistry and four years of math courses (including pre-calculus)
  • Students interested in the mechanical engineering program must have earned a C or better in all freshman courses, with a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Students interested in the biomedical engineering program must have earned a C- or better in all freshman courses, with a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
  • Students must be able to provide their own transportation between schools.
